Dr. L. Pearce McCarty III is in his 4th year as Team Physician for Minnetonka High School. Dr. McCarty is a partner with Sports and Orthopaedic Specialists based out of Edina, Minnesota. He is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with additional board certification in orthopaedic sports medicine, who specializes in the treatment of injuries to the shoulder and elbow, including complex reconstructive techniques. His expertise also includes cartilage restoration techniques in the shoulder and knee such as microfracture, autologous chondrocyte transplantation, treatment of adult and juvenile OCD and meniscal transplant.
After graduating Phi Beta Kappa magna cum laude from Brown University, Dr. McCarty returned to his home state and attended the University of Mississippi School of Medicine on a full tuition merit scholarship. After graduating magna cum laude from medical school, Dr. McCarty completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at the renowned Harvard Orthopaedic Residency Program. He then received advanced training in shoulder surgery and sports medicine by completing a prestigious fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.
Dr. McCarty has assisted with care for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls, and served as one of the head team physicians for the Chicago Steele, a regional United States Hockey League team. Currently, he has team physician responsibilities for the Minnesota Twins as well as the Minnesota Thunder and Lightning soccer teams.
Dr. McCarty actively pursues research interests by authoring multiple book chapters, research articles, and presenting at national meetings such as the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Annual Conference, and the Biennial meeting of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. He has served as director for Harvard’s Orthopaedic Journal Club, and currently functions as a reviewer for the Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, and the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
He is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr.McCarty has received numerous awards throughout his education and training, including election to Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha and the Harvard Medical School Resident Teaching Award. In addition, Dr. McCarty routinely serves as a faculty member for lectures hosted by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Rosemount, IL. In addition, he serves on the Self Assessment Committee and as one of Minnesota’s three members of the Council of Delegates for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
Outside of the office, Dr.McCarty enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He is fluent in French and conversational in Spanish.

Dr. Odom graduated from University of Colorado medical school, and completed a sports fellowship at Hennepin County Medical Center. My clinic allows me to do two things I'm passionate about sports and medicine. My clinic is a non surgical solo practice specializing in sports injury and prevention. We treat athletes at all levels from preps to professional and Olympians. If there is an medical issue keeping an athlete from playing we can likely help get them back in a timely and safe manner.
