Sophomore Coaches

Jason Bell   

Jason Bell will be working with the Sophomore Team as the Offensive Line Coach. This is Jason's fourth year as a football coach, and third with the Skippers. Jason is a graduate of Columbia Heights High School where he was a 4-year letter winner and co-captain. Jason played football at Hamline University where he again was a four-year letter winner while earning degrees in Anthropology and Social Studies with a Licensure in Education. Currently, Jason teaches Social Studies at Minnetonka High School.



Eric Johnson   

Eric Johnson graduated from Minnetonka High School in 1999 and was a three-year letterman and two-year starter for the varsity football team. Eric is entering his eighth year of coaching at Minnetonka and his sixth with the Sophomore staff and will be coaching the Inside Linebackers. Eric is excited to be a part of this great coaching staff and is looking forward to building a tradition of football excellence at Minnetonka. Eric and his wife, Kelli reside in Waconia.



Bob Montague   

Bob Montague enters his seventh year as a football coach for Minnetonka. Coach Montague will work with the Sophomore Wide Receivers. He's been a Wrestling Coach for 27 years, the past 19 at Coon Rapids High School. Bob is also the assistant Golf Coach at Minnetonka. Bob and his wife Joan live in Coon Rapids, and have a son, Jake who is active in baseball, hockey and golf.



Gary Radziej   

Gary Radziej will be working with the Sophomore team as the Offensive Line Coach. Gary is a 1979 graduate of Minnetonka High School. He has been involved in coaching football since 1983, coaching with Minnetonka Youth Football, Mound-Westonka Youth Football, and the MHS sophomore and varsity teams. Gary played football at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Gary is a local business owner. His three children are, Eric, Brooke and Joshua. After working the summer with Coach Nelson and the rest of the staff, Gary says he has learned a lot more about the game and is excited about the future of the program.



Tim Schellhammer   

Tim Schellhammer enters his third year as a defensive line coach and second year as a special teams coordinator. He is working within the math department at Minnetonka High School. Prior to Minnetonka, Coach Schellhammer graduated from Chatfield High School in Chatfield, MN, while playing for Ken Jacobson. Following high school, he attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD, while playing for John Austin and Ed Meierkort and earning All-American accolades. Coach Schellhammer's family includes his father David, mother Kathy, brother Dan, and sister-in-law Megan.



George Soukup   

George Soukup enters his 42nd season as a high school football coach, 39 of which have been with Minnetonka. He will serve as Head Sophmore Coach this fall working with the offense. George is a graduate of Mankato State University, where he was captain for the Indians his senior year. George was inducted to the Mankato State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995. He and his wife Paula have 3 children: Brian, a graduate of Minnesota, Jeff, a graduate of Saint John's University and is teaching 2nd grade in Wayzata, and Kelsie, a student at Aveda Institute. George and Paula are both enjoying their retirement from the Minnetonka School District.



Matt Wiitala   

Matt Wiitala is in his third year coaching at Minnetonka. He will be coaching 10th grade Secondary and also coordinating the defense for his second year. Matt is a 2005 University of Minnesota-Duluth graduate. He played two years at Mesabi Community College and three years at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Matt works with students in the strength and conditioning program in the summer as well as the youth and varsity football camps. Matt resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota
