Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator / Offensive Line Coach

Darren Best is in his eighteenth year of coaching for Minnetonka and his 12th year as freshman head coach. Darren has a degree in mathematics from St. Olaf College where he spent four years as a linebacker for the Oles. He is a Math Teacher and an Instructional Technology Coach at the high school. Darren and his wife Christine live in Waconia with their four kids: Kyle, Natalie, Ryan, and Molly.
Running Backs Coach

Mitch Anderson enters his third season at Minnetonka. Previously he taught and coached at Staples-Motley High School, serving on the varsity football staff as well as the head baseball coach. Mitch is a graduate of both Gustavus Adolphus College and Mankato State University where he earned his BA in Business and Physical Education & Health, respectively. Mitch is a Health teacher at the High School and also the JV baseball coach. Mitch currently resides in Plymouth.
Special Teams Coordinator / Defensive Backs Coach

Dave Bierly came to Minnetonka from Rosemount High School where he was a counselor and football coach for 8 years. This is his seventh year as a counselor & coach at Minnetonka. Dave earned his BA in Behavioral Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a diehard Badger fan. He earned a Masters in Educational Psychology at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities while maintaining his Badger identity. Dave and his wife, Shannon, live in Eden Prairie with their two children- Avery and Hudson.

This is Nick’s second year with the Skippers, working with the 9th grade offensive weapons (QB, WR, RB). He is a graduate of Burnsville High School, class of 2012. He graduated from MSU with a degree in Communication with a minor in Non-Profit Leadership in 2016. He helped coach the 9th football grade team and an assistant 9th grade baseball coach at Burnsville while being a full time college student. Nick is a staff associate for Young Life for the Minnetonka High School. Nick was just married in May to Jenn Doble.
Outside Linebackers Coach
Alma Mater(s): Eden Prairie High School, Saint John’s University
Erik Kottom enters his fourth year coaching at Minnetonka High School. Coach Kottom is a 2010 graduate of Saint John’s University with a BA degree in History and Social Studies education. He started the 2008 season for Saint John’s at guard and earned academic All MIAC honors. Coach Kottom is a Social Studies teacher at Minnetonka High School. He presently lives in Hopkins.
Wide Receivers Coach
Alma Mater(s): Arizona State University
Matt Moran begins his forth season coaching at Minnetonka and works with the freshmen wide receivers. Moran begins his fourteenth year at Minnetonka, where he teaches in the Social Studies Department and works with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. A graduate from Arizona State University, he began his high school teaching and coaching career in Arizona coaching baseball, basketball and cross country. Matt and his wife Pam have four adult children: Matt, Andrew (Laura), Taylor (Joe), and Addy, all of whom have graduated from Minnetonka High School.

Joel enters his second year coaching at Minnetonka High School, where he coaches freshmen quarterbacks. Previously, he coached at Altoona (WI) High School. Joel played quarterback and was a captain at UW-Eau Claire, graduating in 2016 with degrees in Spanish Education and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Joel teaches Spanish Immersion at Minnetonka Middle School East. He currently lives in St. Louis Park.
Alma Mater(s): Benilde-St. Margaret's; St. Mary's University
Jace Rosenfeld enters his first year coaching with Minnetonka High School. Jace has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from St. Mary’s University. He played football for Benilde and walked onto St. Mary’s University Track and Field team where he ran sprints and competed in Division II meets where he threw javelin. Jace is a full time Police Officer for the Deephaven Police Department. Jace recently bought his first home in Minnetonka.
Defensive Coordinator / Inside Linebackers Coach
Jon Westmeyer is entering his second season on the Minnetonka staff. Jon is in his ninth year teaching middle school math; his third at MMW. Jon is a graduate of MHS where he played football. He currently resides in Minnetonka with his wife Erin.
