Darren Best is in his 17th year of coaching for Minnetonka and his 12th year as freshman head coach. Darren has a degree in mathematics from St. Olaf College where he spent four years as a linebacker for the Oles. He is a Math Teacher and an Instructional Technology Coach at the high school. Darren and his wife Christine live in Waconia with their four kids: Kyle, Natalie, Ryan, and Molly.

Dave Bierly came to Minnetonka from Rosemount High School where he was a counselor and football coach for 8 years. This is his 5th year as a counselor & coach at Minnetonka. Dave will be coaching the Freshmen defensive backs for the Skippers. Dave earned his BA in Behavioral Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a diehard Badger fan. He earned a Masters in Educational Psychology at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities while maintaining his Badger identity. Dave and his wife, Shannon, live in Eden Prairie with their two children- Avery and Hudson.
DefensiveCoordinator, Inside Linebackers

Josh Wagner is entering his 4th season on the Minnetonka staff. Coach Wagner will be coaching the inside linebackers and coordinating the defense. Josh graduated from Augsburg College with a major in business management and is currently working as a para and co-teaches an Academic Skills Cohort at the High School. He is attending Augsburg College to obtain his special education teaching license. He resides in Excelsior and has three sons Cooper, Jackson, and Bennett.

Erik Kottom enters his 3rd year coaching at Minnetonka High School. Erik will coach the freshmen outside linebackers this year. Coach Kottom is a 2010 graduate of Saint John’s University with a BA degree in History and Social Studies education. He started the 2008 season for Saint John’s at guard and earned academic All MIAC honors. Coach Kottom is currently a Social Studies teacher at Minnetonka High School. He presently lives in Eden Prairie.

Matt Moran begins his 3rd season coaching at Minnetonka and works with the freshmen wide receivers. Moran begins his 12th year at Minnetonka, where he teaches in the Social Studies Department and works with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. A graduate from Arizona State University, he began his high school teaching and coaching career in Arizona coaching baseball, basketball and cross country. Matt and his wife Pam have four adult children: Matt, Andrew (Laura), Taylor, and Addy, all of whom have graduated from Minnetonka High School.

Mitch Anderson enters his 2nd season at Minnetonka. He will be working as the freshmen running backs coach. He previously taught and coached at Staples-Motley High School, serving on the varsity football staff as well as the head baseball coach. Mitch is a graduate of both Gustavus Adolphus College and Mankato State University where he earned his BA in Business and Physical Education & Health, respectively. Mitch is a Health teacher at the High School and also the sophomore baseball coach. Mitch currently resides in St. Louis Park.

Jon Westmeyer is entering his 1st season on the Minnetonka staff. Coach Westmeyer will be coaching the Freshman defensive backs. Jon is in his 8th year teaching middle school math; 2nd at MMW. Jon is a graduate of MHS where he played football. He currently resides in Minnetonka with his wife Erin.

Joel is joining the Minnetonka High School staff this fall and will coach freshmen quarterbacks. Previously, he coached at Altoona (WI) High School. Joel played quarterback and was a captain at UW-Eau Claire, graduating in 2016 with degrees in Spanish Education and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Joel will teach Spanish Immersion at Minnetonka Middle School East. He currently lives in St. Louis Park.

This is Nick’s 1st year with the Skippers, working with the 9th grade offensive weapons (QB, WR, RB). He is a graduate of Burnsville High School, class of 2012. He graduated from MSU with a degree in Communication with a minor in Non-Profit Leadership in 2016. He helped coach the 9th football grade team and an assistant 9th grade baseball coach at Burnsville while being a full time college student. Nick is a staff associate for Young Life for the Minnetonka High School. Nick is engaged to his Fiancée Jenn, who lives in Chicago; they will be getting married in the spring.

Jesse Meyen enters his 3rd season at Minnetonka. He will be working as the sophomore defensive line coach. He has coached previously at St. Peter High School, serving as an special teams and defensive backs coach for three years. Jesse is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, where he played defensive end for four years. He is a Math Teacher and the head boys track coach at Minnetonka Middle School West. Jesse and his wife Heather reside in Chaska with their son Declan.
