About Us

A Word from the AD

Welcome from the Athletic Director, Ted Schultz

Nothing is more exciting to me than feeling the first cool snap in the air, the leaves changing color, the sound of the marching band, and the roar of the crowd at MHS football games. It's a perfect example of the community coming together to support Minnetonka High School Activities and the Minnetonka Football program.

2020 brang with it changes to our football program. The first is the inaugural season for new Head Football Coach, Mark Esch. Esch replaces legendary coach Dave Nelson, who retired after an amazing 42 years of coaching football, 18 of them at Minnetonka. Esch brings 20 years of high school and college coaching experience to this role in hopes of building off this strong foundation created by Coach Nelson.

Minnetonka Football is committed to developing quality men - not just on the field but in the classroom and in the community. Our coaching staff is among the best in the nation and provides a quality experience for all participants.

There is not question that extracurricular activities plays a powerful role in shaping a positive school culture. At MHS, we believe that participation in activities plays an important role in the academic, social and emotional growth of students and encourages all students to participate in at least one extra curricular per semester. Football, along with our other activity programs, allows students to have a sense of belonging and learn personal responsibility, which are essential for student success.

A high-quality activities program is essential to being a world-class high school. We have high expectations for student success in our programs. Many values are important, bur RESPECT  is the foundation of the Minnetonka activities culture. We expect respectful interaction between all individuals (students, coaches, advisors, parents, spectators, and officials) involved in our programs.

So as you travel to other communities and host them here, please be humble in victory, gracious in defeat, and represent Minnetonka in the best way possible - with ultimate sportsmanship, character and class.

Best wishes for success!
Ted Schultz
